On the evening of the 3rd September, the Battalion was withdrawn from the trenches and bivouacked in a trench system in the front line, with Battalion Headquarters at Schutdtrohls. Enemy active with shelling and bombing. Weather Fair. One other rank reinforcement joined Battalion.

Preparing to move. Part of Transport moved off at 7.30a.m. and remainder at 1.30p.m. Battalion left B.H.Q. at 10.00 p.m. arriving at embussing point near Queant at 11.00p.m. Moved off in lorries at 11.15p.m. Enemy aircraft dropped bombs but no casualties in the 38th Battalion. Weather cloudy all day, clear at night.
