These decorations were awarded those other ranks in respect of acts of gallantry by them in the attack carried out on the enemy’s position East of Marcelcave on August 8th, 1918. The recipients were congratulated by the Commanding Officer and their many friends throughout the Battalion. In the afternoon the battalion moved forward and took up positions in the Beaucourt West line with Battalion Headquarters.
Battalion in front line. Weather fair through day with showers in evening. One other rank reinforcement joined battalion.
During the operations on preceding days Liaison was very indifferent, consequently elements of units, brigades, and even divisions were mixed. And until the correct disposition of these were collected no individual or concentrated effort could possibly be successful. The morning was spent on this. Gas shelling by the enemy was continued and his heavy guns played on Inchy. Later during the day orders were received that relief of the Bn. would be effect by the 29th Battalion. An enemy counter-attack considerably delayed completion of relief and not until the early hours was it accomplished.
